If you are starting a drill team for the first time (or are functionally re-starting one after a long hiatus), this option is for you!  We’ll spend TWO (2) fun-filled 5-hour days exploring various facets of drill team while also learning how to set up a drill team for success!  You and your cadets will learn the fundamentals of how to snap and pop, experiment with exhibition drill, and learn how to practice!  When the workshop is done, you’ll be prepared to start practices and we’ll even give you our best recommendations for the next steps you should take based on the progress we make together!

Prerequisites:

  • You do not have ANY drill team currently AND…
  • You have instructors who desire to start and supervise a drill team for their program AND…
  • You have any number of cadets who have expressed interest but may lack direction!

If your team competes at the national level in any capacity – or seriously desires to do so in the near future – then this is the singular best investment you’ll make.  Traveling to national competitions takes time, energy, resources, and funding.  When you don’t have access to the right information, all this effort can be for naught.  While the best chance of success is NOT a guarantee of success, if you want to learn what it takes maximize your odds based on years of actionable experience and data, this is for you.  This will be more than “drilling better.”  You and your cadets need to understand the mechanics of the competition, the mathematical realities of modern meet scoring, the massive logistical undertaking required to make the drill stand out on the floor, and much more.  You could spend years and hundreds of thousands of dollars to learn a fraction of what our THREE (3) 6-8 hour training days (depending on need) will provide.  We can’t and won’t guarantee any accolades or success but we can and do guarantee that we have the BEST information to provide you on your journey.

This workshop is perfect for programs just getting started in the daunting (but fun) world of exhibition drill. It’s ALSO perfect for experienced teams looking to overhaul their existing presentations!  First, we work together remotely to get everyone involved in the process of designing your first basic routine!  From there, we work on-site for THREE (6) 5-6 hour days (depending on need) to bring your ideas to life with a complete floor plan created to your drill meet schematics.  We’ll even begin to fill this routine floor plan in with sequencing and leave you with ideas/resources to continue to bring your new routine to life!  Here’s the process:

    • You’ll meet remotely with our team via Zoom to make introductions, familiarize yourself with the process/expectations, and design the general floor plan for your new routine with our best-practice guidance!
    • We will develop your ideas into specific formations and marching patterns to be taught on-site together!
    • When we arrive on-site, we will begin by taking your team through the floor plan YOU helped create, working together to move through each formation from start to finish!
    • As time allows, we will help you create the armed/unarmed sequences (i.e. spins, beats, etc.) to layer on top of the formations and marching movements we created together.
    • We will continue to support you remotely with videos and feedback as you “complete” your routine with any additional sequences required to bring your routine to life!

Important Notes:

  • While we will teach important drill concepts, because there is so much to accomplish, significantly less emphasis will be placed on “cleaning” your routine.
  • How much sequencing we’re able to layer and how many transitions we’re able to create is entirely dependent on how quickly the team learns their basic floor plan!
  • For teams wanting to jump-start both the UNARMED and ARMED teams, we start with ONE singular floor plan.  This allows cadets to cross-train and only deviate in terms of spinning rifles vs. conducting unarmed exhibition movements.  If you desire a routine floor plan for both unarmed and armed teams, we recommend you split the participating cadets roughly 50/50 from both groups.

  • You have an existing functional drill team AND…
  • The team has experience practicing & performing regulation drill AND…
  • You have cadets who are engaged and motivated to learn exhibition drill AND…
  • You understand that your team will still need to be significantly invested in completing, practicing, and polishing their new routine!

Price Considerations:

Upon request, an estimate will be provided that factors in the following:

  • Instruction (Based on Number of Cadets and Therefore Number of Trainers Required)
  • Travel ($0.655 Per Mile OR Total Cost of Airfare & Rental Vehicle)
  • Lodging (Area Per Diem Rate Per Trainer-Group OR Total Cost of Lodging)
  • Per Diem ($59 Per Day Per Trainer Including Travel)

We highly recommend seeking funding from school/district instructional budgets, Title I (if applicable) funding, CATE/CTE (if applicable) funds, grants, or other sources of instructional funding being utilized by teachers in your building for curriculum-enhancing experiences. Hosting Considerations:

Host units should be prepared to furnish the following for on-site teaching:

  • Adequate Training Space (Indoors or Outdoors) with an Inclement Weather Plan
  • Adequate Classroom Teaching Space with Computer Projection Ability (or HDMI Input)
  • Adequate Hydration for All Attendees
  • Lunch/Snacks for All Attendees
  • Drill Equipment for All Attendees (i.e. Drill Rifles, Color Guard Equipment, etc.)
